Detecting a water level: what are the needs?
Monitoring the water level can be useful in many situations: preventing overflow, detecting a high or low level, monitoring the filling of a tank, triggering an alert when a threshold is reached, transmitting information remotely, securing an installation.
In these applications, it is not always necessary to know the exact amount of water present.
The information sought may simply be: has the defined level been reached?
How to detect the water level in a tank? How can it be monitored?
Different solutions can be used depending on the configuration of the installation and the requirements: floats, probes, level sensors or other detection technologies. The choice depends in particular on the tank, its environment, the number of levels to be monitored and how the information is to be used. However, some installations present specific constraints. This is particularly the case with flexible tanks and reservoirs.A flexible tank changes as it fills. Its geometry and flexibility must therefore be taken into account when integrating a detection system. In this context, a textile solution can provide an appropriate response.
At Eweave, we have developed a textile strip that can detect the water level.
Positioned vertically in the area to be monitored, it detects when one or more predefined thresholds are reached. The number of thresholds can be adapted to the requirements of the application.
For example, a single threshold can be used to detect a high level and prevent overflow.
From feasibility to industrialisation
We do not simply provide a sensor. We support projects from feasibility and prototyping through to industrialisation, combining textile expertise, electronic engineering and the design of solutions adapted to real-world applications.
The objective: to transform a detection requirement into a functional, integrable and industrialisable solution.
